Iran says discussions with Oman are progressing on creating a temporary single shipping lane for vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran has ruled out any direct talks with the United States. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Monday that the talks concern combining the Iranian and Omani lanes in the strait into one route for shipping.

Tehran said the temporary lane would remain in operation until a permanent agreement is reached, and described a unified route as an interim measure. Qatar and Pakistan, identified as regional mediators, are also maintaining behind-the-scenes contacts. Iran has nevertheless maintained military readiness, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it is prepared to respond to any threat.
