Bangladesh’s government has again urged all media outlets not to broadcast or publish any statements by fugitive Sheikh Hasina, who is described in the notice as being in India. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry made the appeal in an information notice released Tuesday. The request covers television, newspapers, online portals and social media.

The notice said the International Crimes Tribunal had previously prohibited media and social platforms from carrying statements by Hasina, described as an accused in the July-August massacre case, a deposed leader and a fugitive. It said the tribunal instructed the ministry, the ICT Division and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to remove, stop and prevent publication of her earlier hateful statements. The National Cyber Security Agency also asked media not to air such statements, citing the country’s overall security interests and relevant legal provisions.

The government said some outlets have followed the court’s instruction, while others continue to broadcast statements by the convicted accused, prompting deep concern. It thanked outlets that have refrained from carrying them and said it expects all media to act responsibly to protect national unity and the spirit of the July mass uprising.
