National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has alleged that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) gained its parliamentary majority through a secret understanding with the banned Awami League, under conditions allowing the latter’s rehabilitation. Speaking to journalists on Saturday evening at Ibn Sina Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur, he claimed that Awami League, despite its activities being officially prohibited, is reopening offices and operating under BNP’s protection. He further alleged that Awami League is now taking revenge for the July uprising under BNP’s leadership.

Bhuiyan visited NCP and 11-party alliance activists injured in election-day attacks in Noakhali’s Hatiya. He said post-election violence has been widespread, with nearly a thousand NCP and alliance members injured nationwide, many in critical condition. He accused BNP of incorporating Awami League “terrorists” to suppress opposition voices and claimed that ordinary voters have also been attacked, with one person killed for voting.

Bhuiyan urged the interim and incoming governments to ensure swift justice and compensation for victims and demanded a clear statement from BNP on the violence. He also said India should not be invited to the new government’s oath ceremony.
