The Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of the Student Union has drawn criticism for allegedly ignoring the university’s July Uprising Memorial, “Udommo 24,” while paying tribute to martyrs at the central Shaheed Minar. Abdur Rashid Jitu, convener of the anti-dictatorship movement at JU, stated that the official recognition of “Udommo 24” makes it the most appropriate place for homage. He accused certain groups of intentionally creating confusion. However, Student Union president Adri Ankur argued that the central monument represents broader national struggles and that their tribute was not disrespectful or conflicting.
