The Local Government Division has confirmed it was preparing to administer the oath to BNP’s Ishraq Hossain as Mayor of Dhaka South after the High Court rejected a petition blocking his appointment. However, Ishraq filed a new petition on May 25, and a citizen filed a leave-to-appeal against the previous ruling on May 26. As the matter is now pending in the Appellate Division, the government has decided to wait for the court's final decision before proceeding with the swearing-in.
