Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami issued a statement on March 10, 2026, clarifying reports about a letter sent from the office of the party’s Ameer and Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The party’s Secretary General and former MP, Mia Golam Porwar, said the incident occurred about two weeks earlier when Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, then serving as the Ameer’s foreign affairs adviser, sent the letter. He added that Mahmudul Hasan included content beyond the Ameer’s directives, particularly regarding the minister’s rank, which was not authorized.

According to the statement, once the issue came to the party’s attention, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman took immediate action. Professor Mahmudul Hasan was formally relieved of his duties on March 2, and Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Kasem (Arman), MP for Dhaka-14, was appointed as the new foreign affairs adviser to the Leader of the Opposition.

Mia Golam Porwar emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami believes in responsible, transparent, and accountable political conduct and acts promptly to correct any misunderstandings. He urged all concerned to present accurate information to avoid further confusion.
