Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Kasem, the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate, has unofficially won the Dhaka-14 constituency in Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary election. The result was announced early Friday by Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury. Mir Ahmad Bin Kasem, who contested with the balance scale symbol, secured a total of 101,113 votes.

His nearest rival, BNP candidate Sanzida Islam, received 83,323 votes. Including postal ballots from 174 centers, Mir Ahmad Bin Kasem achieved victory by a margin of 17,790 votes. Among other candidates, independent contender Syed Abu Bakar Siddique, with the football symbol, obtained 16,328 votes, while Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Md. Abu Yusuf, with the hand fan symbol, received 3,760 votes.

Mir Ahmad Bin Kasem is the son of Jamaat leader Mir Kasem Ali. The announcement marks Jamaat-e-Islami’s success in this Dhaka constituency during the 13th national election.
