Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, failed to secure his deposit in the 13th National Parliamentary Election for the Bogura-2 (Shibganj) constituency. According to the district returning officer’s office, Manna, who contested under the kettle symbol, received 3,426 votes. The total number of voters in the constituency was 342,155, with 243,802 valid votes cast, representing a turnout of 72.63 percent.

Under election law, a candidate must obtain at least one-eighth, or 12.5 percent, of the total valid votes to retain their deposit. In this case, a minimum of 30,476 votes was required. Manna’s 3,426 votes accounted for only about 1.4 percent of the valid votes, resulting in the forfeiture of his deposit.

Earlier discussions suggested that the BNP might leave the seat for Manna, but the party ultimately nominated its own candidate. Manna later contested independently under his party’s symbol rather than as part of an alliance.
