Prime Minister Tarique Rahman congratulated Bangladesh’s national cricket team by video call after its first Test victory in Australia. Bangladesh beat the hosts by nine wickets in the first Test of the series in Darwin on Sunday. The report said the prime minister was travelling toward Kishoreganj when the team secured the landmark result.

Bangladesh achieved the success on its return to playing Tests in Australia after 23 years. In the video call, Rahman spoke with the players and conveyed greetings on behalf of the people of Bangladesh. He described the victory over a strong Australian side on its home ground as a matter of great pride for Bangladesh cricket.

The prime minister credited the players’ resolve, confidence, skill and collective effort for the result. He congratulated the squad, coaching staff and all others involved with the team. Rahman also expressed hope that Bangladesh would perform well in the next Test and turn the prospect of a series win into success. Bangladesh had previously beaten Australia in a Test in Mirpur in 2017.
