Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus addressed the nation on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, regarding the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum on implementing the July National Charter. In his televised and radio-broadcast speech, he urged citizens to vote freely and responsibly. Yunus announced that the interim government would promptly hand over power to the newly elected representatives once the election results are finalized.
In his address, Yunus called on all political parties to ensure discipline among their members, instructing them to avoid violence, intimidation, or any attempt to influence voting. He warned against spreading rumors or engaging in provocative acts, emphasizing that the state would not tolerate such behavior. He noted that the current election campaign had been more peaceful than previous ones, crediting this to collective responsibility and restraint shown by political actors and the public.
Yunus also highlighted the role of young and female voters, many of whom had been unable to vote for 17 years. He praised women for their leadership in the July uprising and their contributions to Bangladesh’s economy through entrepreneurship and small industries.
