Police in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila have arrested Shamim, the prime suspect in the murder of day laborer Azizul Islam, aged 38. The arrest followed a violent incident on Monday morning after a land dispute between the families of Azizul and Shamim. According to the case statement, Shamim and several others allegedly attacked Azizul with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to the local health complex and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died early Tuesday morning.

Following the killing, residents of Bormi Union’s Paitalbari area blocked the Bormi-Kawraid regional road on Tuesday afternoon, demanding the arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved. The victim’s brother, Taizul Islam, filed a case naming five accused, including Shamim, Fakir, Jamal Uddin, Hridoy, and Shahin, along with five unidentified suspects.

Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahinur Alam confirmed that Shamim was arrested soon after the incident and has been sent to jail.
