Sylhet-2 Member of Parliament Tahsina Rushdir Luna has directed authorities to bring all individuals involved in the Osmaninagar smuggling syndicate under the law. She made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon at a prize distribution ceremony near Mansi Restaurant in Osmaninagar. Luna questioned how such a large-scale illegal operation could continue for so long and demanded a prompt investigation and legal action against everyone involved, regardless of political affiliation.

Her comments followed a major police seizure on May 5, when 603 sacks of Indian cumin, weighing 18,090 kilograms and valued at about 11.2 million taka, were recovered from the home of Abdul Hamid, a local Awami League member and former district council member. The incident has raised questions about the role of local police and the influence of political figures in the smuggling network.

According to local reports, a coordinated syndicate involving influential figures from both the Awami League and BNP is suspected to have operated the cross-border smuggling of goods for an extended period.
