Thousands of fans took to the streets across France on Saturday night after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) won the Champions League final. Violent clashes broke out during the celebrations, leading to 780 arrests, according to French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez. He said 57 police officers were injured, mostly lightly, and a small group attempted to attack a police station in Paris. Authorities confirmed that the situation was fully under control by Sunday afternoon.

Nunez stated that most celebrations in Paris were peaceful, but violence was concentrated around the Champs-Élysées and near PSG’s home ground, Parc des Princes, where about 40,000 fans had gathered to watch the match on a big screen. Police intervened several times overnight to maintain traffic flow on the city’s main ring road. The unrest also spread to about 15 other cities, with 480 arrests made in the Paris area alone.

Despite the overnight violence, the planned victory celebration at Champ de Mars near the Eiffel Tower went ahead on Sunday, followed by a reception for the PSG team at the Élysée Palace hosted by President Emmanuel Macron.
