Security concerns are escalating along the Sylhet border region as the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) continues its alleged push-in operations. In the latest incident, 14 men, women, and children were forcibly sent into Bangladesh through the Muraichhara border in Kulaura. Just a day earlier, 44 individuals were pushed in through the Barlekha border.

Lieutenant Colonel ASM Zakaria of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) stated that during initial interrogation, the detainees revealed they were originally residents of Kurigram and Jashore districts. Although they had been living in India for years, recent crackdowns by Indian police and border guards led to their handover to BSF, who then used the opportunity to force them into Bangladesh.

In response, the BGB has ramped up patrols and surveillance across the border. Additionally, a Section 144 (prohibitory order) has been enforced across the international border in East Jaintia Hills of India’s Meghalaya state, further highlighting the growing tensions in the area.
