Fish trader Alamgir Hossain, described by relatives as a member of the main Nawabganj thana BNP unit in Dhaka, was shot in the capital’s Pallabi area on August 7. A female passer-by was also injured when gunmen opened fire near a tea stall in the Mirpur-11 Millat Camp area. Police said the attack occurred in the afternoon.

According to police and relatives, Alamgir was sitting outside a tea stall in Block B of Road 2, Section 11, Mirpur, at about 5:30pm when four people arrived in a private car and fired at him. He sustained gunshot injuries to the right side of his head, abdomen and buttock. Relatives took him first to Islamia Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 6:50pm, where he was receiving treatment in the emergency department.

Pallabi police said three rounds were fired. A relative alleged that local Jubo League figures Rubel and Bappa were among the attackers, but the allegation could not be independently verified and no response from those accused was available. Police have not confirmed a motive and are seeking witnesses and possible CCTV footage to identify and arrest the attackers.
