A Dhaka court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the alleged negligence-related death of Dr. Nafisa Tabassum Dhipra, a female physician from Dhanmondi. The case was filed by her relative, Md. Mashiur Rahman Shah, accusing four individuals including her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and a magazine editor. Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the order on June 16, 2026, after recording the complainant’s statement.

According to the case details, Dhipra, who married her classmate Dr. Rahmat Rashid, faced continuous physical and mental abuse from her in-laws due to her less affluent background. The complaint alleges that despite being doctors, the accused neglected her medical care and obstructed her professional progress. It also claims she was confined without food for three days before collapsing in front of her mother on June 4.

The complaint further states that the accused delayed taking her to a hospital, leading to her death en route to BIRDEM Hospital. It alleges that they used influence to avoid an autopsy and quickly buried her, describing the death as a planned murder rather than a natural one.
