BNP-nominated candidate and former private secretary to Tarique Rahman, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, has won the Shariatpur-3 (Damudya, Gosairhat, and Vedarganj) constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election by a wide margin. The unofficial results were announced on Thursday night, February 12, 2026, at the district returning officer’s office. Apu secured 106,368 votes, while his nearest rival, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Azharul Islam, received 67,785 votes. The constituency had 340,099 registered voters, and polling took place across 117 centers with four candidates contesting.

Following the announcement, BNP supporters celebrated across Damudya, Gosairhat, and Vedarganj with sweets and processions. In his post-election remarks, Apu said the victory belonged to all people of Shariatpur-3 and pledged to honor their trust. He called for collective efforts to maintain peace and development in the area.

Election officials reported a festive and peaceful voting atmosphere throughout the day, with men and women casting their votes in long queues. No major untoward incidents were reported.
