Bangladesh recorded 472 road accidents in June 2026, resulting in 438 deaths and 561 injuries, according to a report released by the Road Safety Foundation on Sunday. Among the deceased were 44 women and 56 children. The report noted that 145 motorcycle crashes caused 134 deaths, accounting for 30.59 percent of total fatalities. Additionally, 91 pedestrians and 57 drivers or assistants were killed. The foundation also reported nine waterway accidents causing seven deaths and 21 rail accidents that killed 18 people.

The analysis showed that 32 percent of accidents occurred on national highways, 41.10 percent on regional roads, and 12.07 percent in urban areas. Most incidents involved loss of control (43.64 percent) or head-on collisions (23.09 percent). Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of accidents—116 crashes with 118 deaths—while Mymensingh Division had the fewest. The report identified faulty vehicles, reckless driving, poor road conditions, and weak traffic management as major causes.

The foundation emphasized that unregulated working hours, lack of driver training, and disregard for traffic laws continue to exacerbate the country’s road safety crisis.
