Police in Sherpur district seized 33,100 kilograms of government rice under the Food Friendly Program during a raid at a rice processing mill in the town’s Chapataly area early Thursday night. The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Mahmudul Hasan, resulted in the detention of one individual identified as Md Borhan Uddin, son of the late Babul Talukdar from Kasba Bhatipara village.

According to police sources, the confiscated rice was packed in 770 sacks—500 of 50 kilograms and 270 of 30 kilograms—with an estimated value of Tk 1.62 million. Officials said the rice was being repackaged from 50-kg government sacks into smaller 30-kg bags labeled “Food Friendly Program – June 2026” for resale. The storage facility was sealed after the raid.

Authorities stated that legal proceedings are underway against the detainee, and the seized goods will be handled according to court directives following the filing of a case.
