Professor Dr. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, said removing bullets and pellets from those injured during the July protests is not feasible as surgery may cause more harm than good. The best medical efforts have been made to treat the injured, but the main challenge now is ensuring their long-term rehabilitation. Many victims are reluctant to stay in hospitals due to safety concerns. Though government and NGO rehabilitation programs exist, many prefer government jobs and are hesitant about private sector opportunities. The meeting noted that financial assistance alone is insufficient, and besides the Ministry of Health, Disaster Management and Social Welfare ministries should also be involved in rehabilitation.
