Residents of Muradpur Union in Sitakunda, Chattogram, say killings, drug trafficking, youth gang activity, public displays of weapons and cocktail explosions have created severe insecurity in the industrial area. The report, published on July 28, said several people, including Abul Kalam, Enamul Karim Sajib, Korban Ali, Muminul Haque, Rasel and Muslim Uddin, were killed in separate incidents linked to political disputes, territorial control, personal conflicts and internal clashes within drug syndicates.

Locals allege that while police cases were filed and charge sheets submitted in some murder cases, key named suspects in several cases remain outside arrest. Fresh tension followed allegations against a suspected yaba dealer known as Iran and his followers over the killings of Shamim and teenager Naim. Residents said youth gang members staged cocktail blasts and intimidation after news of Naim's death spread. On the night of July 25, an angry crowd beat Iran to death and set fire to his home.

Police said suspects are regularly being arrested and sent to court, while special teams are pursuing fugitives in murder cases. The upazila administration said it would increase police patrols, maintain round-the-clock monitoring and take necessary legal measures to protect residents and property.
