Barrister Ahmad Bin Kashem Arman, the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Dhaka-14 constituency, has been declared the unofficial winner. According to results from all 173 polling centers announced late Thursday night, February 12, Arman received 96,784 votes under the 'scales' symbol. His nearest rival, Sanzida Islam Tuli, contesting with the 'paddy sheaf' symbol, secured 80,927 votes. Arman won by a margin of 15,857 votes.
The report notes that Arman is the son of late businessman Mir Quasem Ali and had previously been missing for nearly eight years during what the source described as an authoritarian period under the Awami regime. The election outcome adds to a series of victories for Jamaat-e-Islami candidates in other constituencies, including Dhaka-4 and Dhaka-6.
The party has also warned of strong movements against those allegedly conspiring over election results, according to the same report.
