An eleven-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami is preparing to call for a protest in Dhaka against post-election violence across Bangladesh. According to sources, the demonstration is expected to begin next Monday after the Asr prayer from the north gate of Baitul Mukarram mosque. The liaison committee of the alliance made a preliminary decision on the program during a meeting on Saturday evening, though the announcement has not yet been made official.

Following the meeting, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and alliance coordinator Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad said the participants expressed strong condemnation and concern over the nationwide violence following the election. He stated that if what he described as fascist behavior does not stop, the alliance will be compelled to launch a movement. Azad added that a program has already been drafted and will be announced after approval from top leaders.

Reports cited in the meeting indicate that homes, businesses, and families linked to Jamaat and the alliance have been attacked in several areas. Jamaat’s verified Facebook page listed at least 21 incidents of violence on election night, with allegations that supporters of the BNP were responsible.
