Rafiq, a private-company employee from Shibalaya in Manikganj, was killed by naval police gunfire at Paturia Ghat around noon on August 5 while joining the anti-discrimination movement, according to the report. Two years later, his family says it remains burdened by grief, financial hardship and uncertainty. Rafiq had supported his elderly parents, sister, wife and daughter with his income.

His father, Roijuddin, said Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita visited their home and provided assistance after the death, while Jamaat-e-Islami also checked on the family. He said that, apart from Rita, no political workers or institution now inquire about them. Rafiq’s wife, Shraboni, said her foremost concern is how to survive and fund their young daughter’s education.

The family says Rafiq’s four-year-old daughter, Raisa Akter, often cries for her father. His elderly parents are struggling with both bereavement and household shortages, while the education of his higher-secondary-level sister has also been affected. Neighbours and local residents have called for prompt financial support, responsibility for the child’s education, and medical care for his elderly parents.
