Zahir Uddin Swapan has resigned as Bangladesh’s information and broadcasting minister, according to a Cabinet Division notification issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Goni, said the president had accepted his resignation and that it would take effect immediately.

Following his resignation, Swapan was appointed political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. A separate Cabinet Division notification said the appointment was made under Rules 3B(1) and 3B(2) of the Rules of Business, 1996. While serving as adviser, he will receive the rank, salary, allowances and related benefits of a minister.

Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho has been assigned responsibility as the BNP government’s information and broadcasting minister. A notification signed by the Cabinet Secretary on Friday night said the prime minister had made the official allocation and reallocation of responsibilities under Rule 3(4) of the Rules of Business, 1996.
