A 20-year-old local man, Yasin Arafat, died after entering the sea to swim at Sugandha Point on Cox’s Bazar beach on Friday morning, August 7. The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. Arafat was the son of Alim Hossain of Peshkar Para in ward 3 of Cox’s Bazar municipality.

Mahbub Alam, supervisor of the district administration’s beach workers, said Arafat and several local friends had entered the sea in the morning. He was swept away by strong waves, and lifeguards at the site responded after hearing his friends shout. They recovered him in critical condition.

Arafat was taken to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, where the emergency-duty doctor declared him dead. Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station officer-in-charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali said a police team inspected the site after receiving the report. The body has been kept at the district hospital morgue, and legal action is being taken. A tourist from Khulna, Helal Uddin, remains missing after being swept away at the same beach on July 24.
