A Dhaka College student was hospitalised after an alleged surprise attack at a mess in the capital’s Lalbagh area. Taher Hossain Noyon, a second-year honours student in the college’s Bangla department, was reportedly struck on the head with a lock by a person from a neighbouring room. He was rescued while bleeding and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. According to the general diary, the incident occurred at about 5pm on July 23 after an argument over mess finances.

Noyon’s friend Masud Rana said classmates went to the scene after learning of the incident, rescued him and arranged initial treatment at the hospital. The alleged attacker was not found when they later returned to the mess. The students went to Lalbagh police station and filed a general diary after local people surrounded them while they were trying to speak with the house owner. The victim and his classmates demanded swift, exemplary legal punishment. Police said the diary had been accepted and investigation and legal action were under way.
