A 62-year-old rickshaw puller named Mahatab Sarkar was killed by his drug-addicted son in Naogaon town’s Bonanipara area early Monday, July 6, 2026. According to police and local sources, the accused, Suman, attacked his father with a wooden stick and a brick after a family dispute. Following the incident, Suman fled the scene, and police later recovered the body.

Family members reported that Suman had long struggled with drug addiction, which often caused unrest at home. His wife, who had been working in a garment factory in Dhaka, recently returned home, leading to renewed family tension. On the night of July 5, Suman lay down in his father’s room, and when Mahatab tried to calm him, an argument escalated into fatal violence.

Naogaon Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Asaduzzaman confirmed that the body was sent for autopsy and that efforts are underway to arrest the fugitive suspect.
