A violent clash broke out between supporters of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Jhenaigati Upazila mini stadium in Sherpur-3 constituency during an election manifesto event. The confrontation began over seating arrangements on the stage before the program started. Sherpur Jamaat’s Shreebardi Upazila secretary Rezaul Karim was critically injured and died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital at 9:45 p.m. Around 50 people from both sides were injured, and several motorcycles were vandalized and set on fire.

According to local administration sources, the event was organized by the Jhenaigati Upazila administration with participation from all contesting candidates. The situation escalated when activists from both parties argued over front-row seating, leading to chair-throwing and extensive vandalism. Police and army personnel later brought the situation under control.

Jamaat candidate Nuruzzaman Badol accused BNP supporters of a premeditated attack, while BNP candidate Mahmudul Haque Rubel claimed Jamaat activists had conspired to create unrest. Authorities said the situation was now normal, and no case had yet been filed.
