In a tightly contested race in the Madaripur-1 (Shibchar) constituency, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and 11-party alliance-backed candidate Said Uddin Ahmad Hanzala secured victory over BNP candidate Nadira Akter by just 385 votes. The final result was determined by postal ballots after Nadira had led in most of the 102 polling centers. Nadira received 64,291 votes under the paddy sheaf symbol, while Hanzala initially had 63,511 under the rickshaw symbol.
The postal ballots changed the outcome, giving Hanzala 1,398 votes compared to Nadira’s 233. This brought Hanzala’s total to 64,909 votes and Nadira’s to 64,524. Independent candidate Kamal Zaman Molla came third with 36,564 votes. Other contenders included Akram Hossain of Islami Andolon with 6,205 votes and several minor candidates with fewer than 3,100 votes each.
Following his win, Hanzala described the result as a victory of truth and pledged to continue fighting for justice. The constituency saw a 55 percent voter turnout, with ten candidates, including BNP, Jatiya Party, and two BNP rebels, contesting the seat.
