Citizen Initiative has expressed deep concern and anger over three recent violent incidents in Bangladesh: the killing of former student leader Saifullah Bari in Gaibandha’s Saghata, the brutal attack on activist Iftekhar Jamil’s father in Mymensingh’s Phulbaria, and the assault on journalist Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi. The organization issued a statement on June 23, 2026, condemning these acts and calling for immediate action.

According to the report, the Mymensingh attack stemmed from a long-standing land dispute and social tensions, with the victim’s family alleging political influence and ongoing threats. In Gaibandha, the killing was linked to a school committee conflict, with local BNP and Jubo Dal members accused of involvement. The Dhaka incident involved Jamaat activists assaulting a reporter, for which the party later apologized.

Citizen Initiative emphasized that political identity must not shield criminals and urged authorities to ensure victims’ safety and conduct impartial investigations. It also called on all political, social, and religious groups to refrain from protecting offenders under political cover.
