Khulna Range DIG Md Mostafizur Rahman said punishment alone cannot develop society, arguing that counselling can also help discourage criminal activity and improve law and order. He made the remarks during an exchange with media representatives on law and order in Narail on Wednesday, August 12, at the police superintendent’s conference room.

The DIG said counselling is currently being given importance in crime control. He added that journalists can play an important role by raising awareness through writing about the social harms of criminal activities. He also declared a strict stance against drugs, saying stern action would be taken against anyone found involved in drug-related activities.

Rahman stressed technology-based policing, saying conventional policing makes it difficult to control the constantly changing forms of crime. He said such policing is highly important for ensuring the public’s expected security and suppressing crime. Police Superintendent Mohammad Al Mamun Sikdar, Additional Superintendent of Police Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui, Additional Superintendent of Police for Kalia Circle Robin Haldar and other senior district police officials attended the meeting.
