Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP) and opposition chief whip, has demanded the removal and arrest of President Md. Shahabuddin. Speaking at an NCP iftar and prayer gathering on Tuesday evening at the Government Teachers Training College field in Rajshahi, he called for the immediate formation of a constitutional reform council and implementation of the referendum’s ‘yes’ verdict.

He stated that the NCP would attend the upcoming parliamentary session on March 12 not to hear the president’s speech but to press for reforms based on the people’s mandate. Nahid Islam emphasized that the party’s movement for reform and justice would continue, urging accountability on when the upper house and reform council would be established.

He also demanded justice for the killing of Shaheed Osman Hadi, saying the suspects reportedly arrested in India must be brought back for trial. Commenting on the government’s ‘Family Card’ program, he said it was a good initiative but would not benefit citizens unless corruption and loan default issues were resolved.
