A total of 29 Bangladeshi fishermen, who were detained by the Arakan Army after mistakenly crossing maritime borders while fishing in the Naf River and the sea on February 11 and 20, have been brought back to the country. Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer Sheikh Ehsan Uddin confirmed that the return was facilitated by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The Arakan Army had seized six engine-run fishing boats along with the fishermen. Hnila Union Parishad Chairman Md. Ali, along with the victims’ families, expressed gratitude to the BGB and others involved in securing their return. Concerned authorities are urged to strengthen patrols in the Naf River and nearby waters to ensure fishermen’s safety in the future.
