Iran has announced the funeral and burial schedule for its late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 in a joint U.S.-Israel airstrike. State media confirmed that the multi-stage ceremonies will take place in July across several cities. Farewell events will be held in Tehran on July 4 and 5, followed by the main funeral on July 6. Additional prayers will occur in the holy city of Qom on July 7, and the burial will take place on July 9 at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad, in accordance with Khamenei’s final wish.

Tehran’s deputy mayor Mohammad Amin Tavakoli-Zadeh said the capital’s funeral event could last at least 24 hours, with an estimated 15 to 20 million participants expected. Following Khamenei’s death, his son Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the role of Iran’s new Supreme Leader in early March.

The ceremonies are expected to draw massive national attention, marking the end of an era in Iran’s leadership and the beginning of a new chapter under Mojtaba Khamenei.
