Nepal’s tourism authorities have reported that 24 Canadian citizens are missing after severe flash floods along the Bhotekoshi River. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada is prepared to assist Nepal following the disaster, describing the flooding as “absolutely horrific” in a post on X.

Carney said Canadians were thinking of people affected by the disaster, families who lost relatives, and those still awaiting information about loved ones. He also urged Canadian citizens in the affected region to register their presence as soon as possible. A spokesperson for a Nepal tourism board said reports indicated that 24 Canadians remained missing after the floods.

The World Health Organization has sent emergency medical supplies to Nepal, according to Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. WHO said it had procured and dispatched needed supplies to affected areas and praised rescuers for their selfless work. The organization had previously said it was providing medicines and multipurpose tents while monitoring public-health risks, strengthening disease surveillance, and working to ensure essential health services for affected communities.
