In a major step toward bridging the digital divide, the government plans to provide Starlink satellite internet connectivity to 100 schools in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) within the next six months. The initiative aims to ensure e-learning and access to modern educational resources for students in remote mountainous regions. Suprodip Chakma, an advisor to the government, emphasized that this project will be a “technological revolution” in the education sector. "Our primary focus is to ensure quality education in the Hill Tracts. We must compete with other regions—we cannot always rely on quotas. That’s why we need to develop high-quality schools and colleges,” he said. He also highlighted the need for satellite-based education and the construction of hostels at both district and upazila levels to support this transition. In addition, the government is planning to establish an engineering college, a nursing college, hostels, orphanages, and dormitories in the region. As part of broader development efforts, a three-year bamboo cultivation initiative, new livestock and fisheries projects, and plans to utilize the potential of Kaptai Lake for economic self-sufficiency have been announced. Chakma also reiterated the importance of maintaining communal harmony in the region.
