A Dhaka court has ordered the start of trial proceedings against former Member of Parliament Abdus Salam Murshedy and 12 others in a case alleging the misappropriation of 27 kathas of government land in Gulshan-2. On Monday, July 6, 2026, Dhaka’s Ninth Special Judge Md. Abdus Salam rejected the defendants’ discharge petitions and framed charges. The court also set August 19 for the beginning of witness testimony, according to defense lawyer Khademul Islam.

Earlier in the day, Murshedy and other detained defendants were produced before the court, while those on bail appeared in person. The defense team included lawyers Ehsanul Haque Samaji, Masud Ahmed Talukder, Borhan Uddin, Shaheenur Islam, and Khademul Islam. The case accuses the defendants of abusing their official positions to falsify records and facilitate the illegal transfer of government property.

According to the charge sheet, the accused conspired to misuse power and create false documents to enable the transfer and registration of the state-owned plot without proper release, violating multiple sections of the Penal Code and the 1947 Prevention of Corruption Act. Murshedy was arrested on October 1, 2024.
