Police in Mongla, Bagerhat, arrested a 35-year-old man over allegations that he used the name, signature and title of State Minister for Environment and Climate Dr Sheikh Faridul Islam for unlawful lobbying. The suspect, Md Kamruzzaman Tuku, was detained from his home in Haldibunia village of Chila union around midnight on Sunday, police said. He is the son of the late Nurul Islam Sheikh.

Police said they located the suspect using modern technology after receiving confidential information. During the operation, officers seized a seal and stamp bearing the state minister’s name and title. The investigation began following allegations that the minister’s identity was used to exert improper influence and conduct lobbying. Law enforcement personnel are examining the seized seal, stamp and other evidence to determine the facts of the case.

Mongla police have filed a case naming Kamruzzaman Tuku and two others in connection with the incident. Mongla Circle Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Refatul Islam said the detainee was being questioned and legal action would be taken if evidence identifies other people involved. No immediate comment was available from the state minister, his representative, the detainee or his family.
