Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held its central Majlis-e-Shura session on Friday morning at Al Falah Auditorium in Dhaka, attended by senior party leaders and members. Party chief and opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman delivered the opening speech, declaring that Jamaat’s struggle against injustice and oppressive forces would continue. He stated that the party would remain uncompromising in defending democratic values and people’s rights, emphasizing that resistance must rise wherever fascism appears.
Dr. Rahman criticized the government for disregarding public opinion expressed in the February 12 general election and referendum on reform, claiming that nearly 70 percent of voters’ views were ignored. He said the failure to establish independent institutions such as the judiciary, anti-corruption and human rights commissions, and the election commission had allowed the recurrence of authoritarian tendencies. He also called for national unity to address border challenges and urged citizens to stay united for their legitimate rights.
The Jamaat leader expressed concern over rising crime and political violence, demanding justice for recent killings, including that of a student leader in Gaibandha. He reaffirmed Jamaat’s commitment to building a humane, safe, and just Bangladesh.
