A fire broke out at a lawyer’s chamber in Al-Baraka Tower on Elephant Road under New Market Police Station in Dhaka, killing two clerks named Abdus Salam, 20, and Jony, 24. The incident occurred in the chamber formerly belonging to late adviser Hasan Arif, now used by his son Barrister Moaz and International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman. Fire Service personnel recovered the two victims from a bathroom after extinguishing the blaze and took them to hospital, where both were later declared dead.

According to police, Abdus Salam was from Kahalu in Bogura and worked for prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman, while Jony, from Kishoreganj Sadar, worked for Barrister Moaz. Sub-Inspector Md Shahin of New Market Police Station confirmed that the bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. He said the exact cause of death would be determined after investigation and post-mortem reports.

A security guard at the building suggested the victims may have taken shelter in the bathroom to escape the fire and died from suffocation due to smoke. The fire also destroyed valuable books and documents worth several lakh taka.
