US President Donald Trump said he wants to reach an agreement with Iran rather than enter a military conflict. Speaking at a public event in Las Vegas on August 6, 2026, Trump said successful ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran could avert a possible US military attack on Iran. “I want to make a deal with Iran. I don’t want to kill people,” he said.

Vice President JD Vance said the negotiations with Iran are complicated and will take time, but expressed confidence that an agreement can eventually be reached.
