Newly appointed Navy Chief Vice Admiral Khandaker Misbah Ul Azim paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War by laying a wreath at Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment on Friday. After the tribute, he signed the memorial’s visitors’ book. Earlier on July 24, principal staff officers formally received him at Naval Headquarters, where a ceremonial naval contingent presented a guard of honour. He inspected the guard and received the salute in the presence of senior naval officials.

The vice admiral said he was committed to building the navy into a strong and modern blue-water force to ensure security across the country’s vast maritime area and blue economy, in line with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s guidance. He also reaffirmed a commitment to strengthen maritime sovereignty and security through the addition of modern frigates, submarines, advanced sonar and radar systems, and other technology. Vice Admiral Khandaker Misbah Ul Azim formally assumed responsibility as navy chief on July 23, 2026.
