The United States is preparing to send several dozen additional refueling aircraft to Israel as part of an expanded military plan against Iran, according to US and Israeli officials cited by Axios. The report states that President Donald Trump has been presented with new military options targeting Iran’s power plants, key infrastructure, nuclear facilities, and an underground site at Pickaxe Mountain. However, Trump has not yet made a final decision on the matter.
US officials said the plan aims to increase pressure on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and comply with Washington’s conditions regarding its nuclear program. American strikes have continued for the fifth consecutive day in the Strait of Hormuz and southern Iran, including attacks on at least seven bridges near Bandar Abbas. Iran, in turn, claimed to have launched retaliatory strikes on US bases in Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, and Kuwait.
Israeli officials noted that about 60 US refueling aircraft are currently stationed at Ben Gurion International Airport and Ramon Airbase, with more expected soon. Concerns have arisen in Israel that the large military deployment could disrupt civilian air traffic.
