Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has expressed optimism that corruption among government employees will decline following the announcement of a new pay scale. The statement came during a post-budget press conference held on Friday at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, following the presentation of the 2026–27 fiscal year budget.

The minister explained that when salaries increase, corruption should decrease because improved living standards for government officials and employees reduce the incentive for unethical practices. The government has introduced the new pay structure after 11 years, citing rising inflation and living costs as key reasons for the revision.

According to the budget announcement, the new pay scale will take effect from July 1, aiming to adjust compensation in line with current economic realities and to enhance the financial well-being of public sector workers.
