A Dhaka court sentenced nine individuals, including a man named Mithun, to five years in prison under the Narcotics Control Act. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, by Dhaka’s 10th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Nurul Islam. Each convict was also fined 5,000 taka, with an additional one-month jail term in case of non-payment. Mithun’s uncle, Ayub, who was present in court to hear the verdict, collapsed after learning of his nephew’s sentence and was later declared dead at the nearby National Medical College Hospital.

According to the court’s bench assistant, only Mithun was present during the verdict, while the other eight convicts—Murad, Sabir, Raja, Masum Hossain, Billal, another Raja, Wahidul Sonu, and Jummon Mia—were absconding. Arrest warrants were issued against them along with the sentencing. The case originated from a 2018 RAB-2 raid at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, where 1,950 yaba tablets were seized and nine suspects were detained.

Police filed the case the following day, and after investigation, charges were submitted in July 2018. The trial formally began in May 2019, with four witnesses testifying before the verdict.
