Students at Dhaka University detained an accused activist of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League and handed him over to police on Tuesday evening. The incident took place in the TSC area, where leaders and activists of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti apprehended Mohammad Sakib, a student of the 2021–22 session in the Department of Philosophy at Bijoy Ekattor Hall. According to Chhatra Shakti leaders, Sakib was an active Chhatra League member and took part in an attack on protesters in July, for which two cases were filed against him.

Sakib had previously been temporarily expelled from the university for alleged involvement in the July 15, 2024, attack on students. Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Moniruzzaman stated that authorities were verifying the matter and would take legal action based on the findings. Dhaka University Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed confirmed that Sakib is a student of the university and that two cases were filed against him in connection with the anti-discrimination movement.

Police said further action would depend on the verification of existing cases and legal procedures.
