A young man named Rana Mia, aged 28, was killed in a clash in Mymensingh city on Tuesday, June 2. His family alleged that he died after being stabbed by the son of a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader. The incident occurred in the Char Ishwardia Madhyapara area of Ward 31. Rana, a local resident and autorickshaw driver, was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead in the evening. Relatives said he was involved with the BNP.
According to the family, tensions had been ongoing since the national election when Rana supported a BNP candidate, straining relations with the family of Jamaat leader Mofidul Islam. The dispute reportedly escalated after a quarrel following a football game. The next day, a group allegedly led by Mofidul’s son Mahin attacked, leaving Rana fatally injured and several others hurt.
Mofidul Islam denied the allegations, saying neither he nor his son was present. The city Jamaat chief claimed the clash stemmed from a local feud, not politics. Police said initial findings suggest political links and have deployed extra forces while legal action proceeds.
