Five carriages of an oil-carrying train derailed at Shahpur in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj on Wednesday night. The accident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on the Dhaka-Sylhet railway route. According to local sources, the derailed carriages were severely damaged, with several falling onto adjacent land. The cause of the derailment was not immediately known.

Monatola Station Master Ataur Rahman Khadem confirmed that the oil train, traveling from Akhaura to Sylhet, derailed shortly after leaving Monatola station. Following the incident, people were seen collecting spilled oil from the ground using buckets. Railway authorities were preparing to begin rescue operations at the site.

No casualties were reported at the time of the report, and the exact reason for the derailment remained unclear. The incident led to a 12-hour suspension of rail communication on the Sylhet route.
