Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal-2 ordered dismissed Major General Ziaul Ahsan and Lieutenant Colonel Tareq Sayeed to be produced before it on August 10 in two crimes-against-humanity cases concerning alleged disappearances and killings of BNP leaders. The three-member panel, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, issued the order on Tuesday after granting a prosecution request for production warrants.

The other panel members were Judge Md. Manjurul Bachid and Judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir. Prosecutor Shaikh Mahdi argued for the prosecution, alongside prosecutors Gazi MH Tamim, Faruk Ahmad and others. Mahdi presented updates on the investigations and sought the warrants against the two former military officers, who are currently detained in other cases.

According to prosecution sources, BNP leaders Abdul Mannan, Zahidul Islam Sumon and Asaduzzaman Babul were allegedly killed in a staged gunfight in Lakshmipur on December 15, 2013. Saiful Islam Hiru and Humayun Kabir Parvez were allegedly disappeared in Laksam, Cumilla, on November 27 that year. Investigations remain ongoing, and the prosecution said it had found the two officers’ involvement.
